Why “The Pastors Lounge?”

Most churches have a Pastors lounge - a designated space where the pastor or visiting guest can separate from the crowd and be refreshed between times of service. With this concept in mind, The Pastors Lounge is a counseling and therapy service designed for those seeking a professional, Christ centered and confidential space for introspection, growth and accountability.

Since it’s called "The Pastors Lounge," does that mean you only serve pastors, ministers, & church leaders?

While one of our primary areas of specialty is mental health counseling and support specifically for those in ministry, we are here to serve anyone who is looking for a Biblically based approach to resolving mental health issues.

Question 3

Do I need to identify as a Christian to seek therapy at The Pastors Lounge?

Accepted Answer

Nope! Our practice is designed to be a space where anyone seeking God’s Biblical perspective on their concerns in the context of formal psychotherapy can come for mental health support. If this sounds like something you’ve been looking for, or curious to try, then we’re for you!

Do you take insurance? How do I pay for these services?

Accepted Answer

At the Pastors Lounge we are highly cognizant that many of our clients will be public Christian figures or others with hesitations around confidentiality. In order to best protect our clients privacy and ensure your complete control over your health records, we are exclusively private pay. Submitting a mental health invoice for reimbursement through health insurance carries a certain amount of risk to your confidentiality. That is why we do not directly bill your insurance.

However, if you wish, we can provide receipts and a coded visit bill (“super bills”) which you may submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement if you choose. We encourage you to check with your insurance regarding the specifics of your policy.

Regarding out-of-network reimbursement:  We've partnered with Mentaya, a service that streamlines getting reimbursed for your therapy sessions through out-of-network benefits.

Mentaya is perfect if you: 
• Have out-of-network benefits 
• Feel overwhelmed by superbills and insurance 
• Have submitted superbills but failed to get any reimbursement 
• Simply want to skip the hassle of paperwork!

Question 5

Do you work with kids ?

Currently our treatments and supports are geared towards adults (21+) but we will work with some older teens (17+) on a case by case basis.  This may change in the future as The Pastors Lounge grows as a company and brings on new therapists who specialize in treating younger age ranges.

Question 6

I’m not in any “crisis” or having major issues per se - is therapy even for me?

As much as there typically is a precipitating challenging event or series of experiences that lead someone to reach out for counseling, we are of the mind that the best time to work on problems is when you’re NOT in a crisis or too overwhelmed to have bandwidth for creating solutions. Question 7

I’m over God and the church - I’ve become jaded and wounded by its people and leaders. Are you just going to thump your Bible at me in therapy or is there room for my experience, doubts and skepticism?

The great thing about working with a trained clinician- regardless of their faith background-  is that we know how to read the room and adjust to you.  As much as we are a Christian based practice that doesn’t mean we don’t know what to do with faith crises, jaded faith, anger with God or the institution of church etc. These struggles are part of the journey and we welcome it 100%. You as the client set the tone for how we unpack those themes. Bring that experience and let’s work through it in a way that ministers to your soul.

Question 8

I’m a seasoned and relatively successful pastor /ministry leader -how do I know if I could benefit from these services ?

Our goal is to, ideally, get ahead of issues, not just address the ones at hand. As a leader you are most vulnerable due to the pressures of the applause, attention, the constant “needs of the sheep”, plus staying present and available for your own households. If you’re experiencing any level of overwhelm or can foresee some on the way, then you are a prime candidate for our support!

Question 9

I live a pretty high profile / low down time life with a lot of travel involved (ie. Evangelist, Missions trip leader, professional musician, athlete, actor etc.) but I am interested in establishing some kind of mental health regimen - how would that work for me?

Not everyone needs weekly consistent therapy. Some of you may even be resuming therapy for a “tune up” after going consistently in previous years. Session frequency completely depends on your specific treatment needs and personal circumstances (ie. time, finances, access to privacy). We can tailor your session frequency around your lifestyle.
